Harry Loucks
A career pioneering the design of cutting edge interactive science museums exhibits, first for the IBM Pavilion, NY World’s Fair (1964-65), for which he was directly hired by Charles Eames working along side him on this momentous project. Harry then became the Chief Designer at The Cincinnati Science Center, followed by The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia (the oldest science museum in the US) as Director of Design. He then was brought to Arkansas to be Design Director of The Mid America Center Museum in Hot Springs, AR. Later he brought the vocabulary of whimsical museum design to the field of health care, notably locally at Arkansas Children’s Hospital where his 3-story kinetic sculpture, Coping in Hope, was so beloved by many for decades. Harry has won numerous national and international awards and continues to create in his late eighties. His designs occupy, calm, whet curiosity and lead to engagement of thought, then to smilies—appealing to the child in all. Many of his designs have been emulated and duplicated at science museums around this country and Canada.
Harry is an Industrial Design graduate of The Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.
For many decades he has been a artist and a sculptor whose works have been acquired, commissioned and loved by collectors and communities alike.
