Marley Boswell

I approach printmaking as a way of layering memory, place, and identity into visual form. My work ranges from non-representational mark-making to graphic illustration, and I move fluidly between techniques such as monotype, screen printing, intaglio, and relief. Each process offers a different way of building images, sometimes through direct experimentation, other times through collage, where fragments of imagery come together to form a story.

Play is central to my practice. I allow the materials to guide me, letting accidents, textures, and chance impressions shape the final work. This process reflects how memory feels to me: shifting, overlapping, and leaving gaps that are often filled with imagination.

Much of my work is informed by childhood and the overwhelming feelings of growing up. I’ve created many imprints of places, people, and versions of myself—some from Little Rock, Arkansas, where I grew up, others from Chicago, where I spent most of my early twenties, and now here in the desert, where I’m discovering a new range of impressions.

I am currently in my senior year of undergraduate study at the Institute of American Indian Arts, where my focus is printmaking.
